One Step at A Time

I would like to base today’s devotional off the following prayer I saw online:
Dear God, help me to see what You see, to love what You love, and to do what You would have me do. Give me the courage to follow where You lead, even when I can't see the whole path. And help me to trust that Your plan is better than mine. Unknown Author
I know how hard it is to face days when pain, fatigue, or worry clouds everything. Some of you are battling your own health struggles, while others are pouring out your hearts caring for someone dear, or in some cases you are in both roles. For me, at times it feels like I am walking on an unknown trail deep in the woods at night, not knowing or being able to see what’s around the next bend. But God sees the whole path—every moment of exhaustion, every tear, every quiet act of love. He’s inviting us to trust Him, to see through His eyes, to love as He loves, and to take one step at a time, knowing He is the One leading us.
I often lean on this Truth from God’s Word:
Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV): “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding; in all thy ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
This verse has often been a lifeline when I feel lost in the “why” of suffering. It calls me to trust God fully, even when doctor visits or caregiving demands make little or no sense. “Lean not on your own understanding” reminds me that my view is limited—test results or daily struggles can feel overwhelming, but God’s wisdom is bigger. When we surrender to Him, He promises to guide us, not always to an easy road, but to one with purpose and peace. I’m holding onto this for myself, and I pray it comforts you, whether you’re facing your own illness or caring for someone you love, or both.
Now, back to the prayer:

1. See What God Sees: Take a moment to picture yourself, or your loved one, through God’s eyes—cherished, known, and deeply loved. Write down one thing you are thankful for today, even if it feels small, like a kind word or a moment of rest.

2. Love What God Loves: God’s love is gentle, patient, and full of grace. Extend that love today—perhaps through a quiet prayer, a text of encouragement, or by offering yourself permission to rest without guilt.

3. Do What God Would Have You Do: Ask God for one small step to take today. It might be asking for help, praying for strength, or reaching out to encourage someone else. Faithfulness often looks like small, quiet obedience.

4. Courage to Follow: When fear or doubt creeps in, pause and whisper a short prayer asking God for courage to trust His path. Write it down and place it somewhere you can see it, like on your nightstand or phone, to remind you God is always with you.

5. Trust That God’s Plan Is Better Than Yours: This may be the hardest step of all. Trust doesn’t mean understanding—it means resting in God’s goodness even when answers don’t come. Release one worry or unanswered question to Him today, and remind your heart: God is good, and He is faithful, even here.

Lord, You see my sisters’ hearts—the pain, the love, the weariness. Help each of us to see Your love in our struggles, to love others as You do, and to follow Your lead with courage. Give us strength for today, peace for tomorrow, and a deep trust in Your perfect plan. I pray this in the perfect and powerful name of our precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Heavenly Father, we come to You just as we are—tired, hopeful, uncertain, and trusting.
You see the whole path when we can only see the next step.
As we sing, help us to see what You see,
