...located on Flores Island this adventure on Wildside Trail is an 11km in and 11km back out hike. you start in Tofino where you catch a 30 minute water taxi. we needed overnight parking and there is a spot at 391 main street. the trail fees were 15$ per day, and we paid for them online. Once you arrive at the dock on Flores Island, you follow the red foot prints in the street to the trail head, though they are fairly faded. the ahousaht first nations people are very welcoming. every car that drives by, on route to the trail head is waving, stopping to give directions and saying hello.
once you reach the trailhead, youll see the iconic 'walk the wildside sign' and you know your starting, the beach walking is wonderful, all hard sand, easy walking. the inland trails are well kept, there was not much mud, due to the dry conditions, so the trail is also easy to traverse, i found the toughest sectionof the trail was after the bridge crossing the creek past inland route not taking the low tide crossing. it was fairly technical. the low tide shortcut, definatley needs to be low tide, i saw it at low and high tide, and the difference is huge. low tide looks ankel deep, high tide would be a swim. the crossing for the low tide shortcut, was hard to spot, the entrance onlt had a blue streamer, there wasnt any buoys.
all the beaches on this trail are magnificent, gorgeous landscapes throughout the entire trail. Cow Bay is beautiful, alot of exploring you can do there. we collected water at the Sitka Crossing bridge for our camp, its a very short walk to Cow Bay from there.
this trail can be done in a vary of ways, we did it in one night, but you could do it in one day, to how ever many youd like, there are 3 designated campsites(i believe), as well as an emergency shelter.
if you are into any coastal hiking, this is definately worth the hike. i will definately do this one again, but probnably stay a couple night.
