1) Historical drama filmed in 3 parts depicting an incident in the American Navy from the late 19th century, which at the time the Navy had resolved the case internally and closed so that it would not continue to be reported in the press. However, the series of 3 films tells the story according to one of the following versions:
2) Two captains in the American Navy, Sampson and Schley, were promoted when the Spanish-American War broke out. Sampson was appointed Rear Admiral and Schley was promoted to Commodore. Schley was Sampson's senior and resented being overlooked. There was some friction between them when the fleet commanded by Sampson and Schley, with Schley in command, blockaded the Spanish fleet in the Port of Santiago de Cuba. One day, Sampson took his ship, the USS New York, away from the blockade line on his own to attend a conference with the US Army. When he did so, the Spanish fleet attempted to break the blockade. Schley ordered the fleet to engage in battle and the Spanish fleet was destroyed. Sampson only joined the battle towards the end. It turned out that both commanders claimed the lion's share of the victory. Both attacked each other. The controversy spread to the press. Internal hearings were held, senior officers were warned to ignore the situation and the case was closed.
3) In the film, in the 1st block, we see Commodore Schley's character on the bridge of the USS Brooklyn commanding the American fleet in the Port of Santiago de Cuba. The Spanish fleet appears in the background and, together with the fort on land, begins to fire at the American ship.
In the 2nd block, the Brooklyn's gunners operate a 13-inch cannon firing at one of the Spanish ships. One of the sailors is hit by one of the Spanish shots, but the enemy ship is sunk with a well-aimed artillery shot. All under Schley's command.
In the 3rd block, at a high-class reception with several spinster ladies, not Schley, but Rear Admiral Sampson is honored and pampered by the ladies. The script of the films therefore follows Schley's version of the facts.
4) The first two films were produced together in August 1901. The third was produced the following month, September, and marketed as a sequel to the drama.

2) Drama histórico filmado em 3 partes retratando um incidente da Marinha Americana do final do século XIX que, na época a Marinha resolvera o caso internamente e deu por encerrado para que não continuasse sendo divulgado na imprensa. Mas a série de 3 filmes conta a história seguindo uma das versões à seguir:
3) Dois capitães da Marinha Americana, Sampson e Schley, foram promovidos quando a Guerra Hispano-Americana eclodiu. Sampson foi nomeado Contra-Almirante e Schley foi promovido a Comodoro. Schley era superior a Sampson e se ressentia de ser preterido. Houve algum atrito entre eles quando a frota comandada por Sampson e Schley, com Schley no comando, bloqueou a frota espanhola no Porto de Santiago de Cuba. Um dia, Sampson afastou seu navio, o USS New York, da linha de bloqueio por conta própria para participar de uma conferência com o Exército dos EUA. Quando o fez, a frota espanhola tentou romper o bloqueio. Schley ordenou que a frota entrasse em batalha e a frota espanhola foi destruída. Sampson só entrou no finalzinho da batalha. Aconteceu que os dois comandantes reivindicaram a maior parte da vitória. Ambos se atacaram. A controvérsia se espalhou para a imprensa. Audiências internas foram realizadas, oficiais-superiores foram advertidos a ignorar a situação e o caso arquivado.
4) No filme, vemos no 1º bloco o personagem do Comodoro Schley na ponte do USS Brooklyn comandando a frota americana no Porto de Santiago de Cuba. A frota espanhola surge ao fundo e juntamente com o forte em terra, começa atirar contra o navio americano.
No 2º bloco, os artilheiros do Brooklyn manipulam um canhão de 13 polegadas atirando contra um dos navios espanhóis. Um dos marinheiros é atingido por um dos tiros espanhóis, mas o navio inimigo é afundado com um tido certeiro de artilharia. Tudo sob o comando de Schley.
No 3º bloco, em uma recepção da alta classe com diversas damas solteironas, não Schley, mas o contra-almirante Sampson é homenageado e paparicado pelas damas. O roteiro dos filmes segue portanto a versão dos fatos segundo Schley.
5) Os dois primeiros filmes foram produzidos em conjunto em agosto de 1901. O terceiro foi produzido no mês seguinte setembro e comercializado como uma continuação do drama.
