The Villasur Expedition hide painting is the earliest known illustration of an event taking place in what is now Nebraska. It depicts the violent end of the 1720 Villasur Expedition, the first large-scale European incursion into what is now Nebraska.
Curt Peacock recreated these famous paintings for the Nebraska History Museum in 1987 for our First Nebraskans exhibit. As the museum puts the reproduction back on display for the 300th anniversary of the battle, he talked to us about how he recreated this amazing piece of history.
