Train on the Gartell Light Railway - 7th February 2026

Описание: I went to the annual model railway exhibition at the Gartell Light Railway on Saturday 7 February and, while there, enjoyed a ride on the 2 foot gauge railway which, for much of its three quarters of a mile length, travels along the trackbed of the former Somerset & Dorset Railway between Templecombe & Henstridge.
There are four stations on the GLR, with the main terminus being at Common Lane, seen at the end of this video.
There is also Pinesway Junction, seen in the distance here, and with Park Lane, which is at the Henstridge end of the line and Tower View, which is at the Templecombe end.
Before leaving the event I captured this short video of Locomotive Nº 1 'Amanda' on her return journey from Park Lane as she calls at Pinesway Junction and then proceed to Common Lane terminus where we see her run around the train in readiness for the next trip.
The loco is named after the daughter of the GLR owner, John Gartell, and is a twin-cab Bo--Bo diesel hydraulic locomotive.
According tho the GLR website the loco originated from the Southend Pier tramway and was rebuilt in the GLR workshop where she was given a new body to resemble that of a BR Class 33 diesel, which once regularly worked passenger services on the Waterloo to Exeter main line.
For those interested, she is powered by a Perkins 6354 engine via a 2 speed direct drive hydraulic gearbox to both bogies.
