*We believe in water baptism but we’re not part of the Baptist denomination
*We believe in Spirit baptism but we’re not part of the Pentecostal denomination

1. What is Pentecost?
Acts 2:1-4

Pentecost is one of 3 major feasts in Israel (7 in all)
•Passover (Unleavened Bread and Firstfruits) Pentecost
•Tabernacles (Trumpets, Day of Atonement, Tabernacles- Booths)

The Day of Pentecost was the celebration of the giving of the law
•It occurred 50 days after Passover thus the name
•Pente means 5. Cost means to the 10th power (50 - fully come)
•It means fifty! Isn’t that a scary word? Fifty!

It was also called the feast of weeks
•The week of weeks (Seven weeks)
•Jesus was here 40 days then they prayed for 10 days

Leviticus 23:15-16

The Day of Pentecost was the 50th day after the Resurrection!
•On that day, the Holy Spirit came
•It was the celebration of the beginning of harvest!

2. What happened at Pentecost?

Acts 2:5-8, 11

How many of you remember the story of the Tower of Babel? (Gen 11)
•They were as one and could understand each other
•God came down and confused their language

At Pentecost they came together because they had been divided
•They were confused when they came together
•Then God did a miracle and they were able to understand each other

Pentecost is the blessed reversal of the cursed judgment of Babel!
•God’s judgment at Babel scattered the people, but
•God’s blessing at Pentecost united the believers in the Spirit.
•Every tongue and tribe praising God – Heaven!

At Babel, the people were unable to understand each other; but
•At Pentecost, men heard God’s praises and understood what was said.
•The building of Babel was an act of rebellion and pride, but
•Pentecost was an act of submission and humility.

When the law was given on Mt Sinai
•They were gathered as one
•The cloud descended and there was a loud noise and fire
•3000 people died
•The law was written on tablets of stone

When the Holy Spirit came on Pentecost
•They were gathered as one
•The cloud (Holy Spirit) descended with a loud noise and fire
•3000 people were saved
•The law was written on tablets of flesh!

There was no way they could keep the law (They were breaking them)
•The Holy Spirit is the empowering to walk in God’s righteous standards

We need the empowering of the Holy Spirit to walk righteously
•Jesus comes to make us righteous
•The Holy Spirit comes to empower us to live righteously!

3. Can I experience Pentecost?
Acts 2:3-4

Notice that a tongue of fire sat on each of them
•If we had been there, you would have seen the tongue over my head
•But I would have seen the tongue over your head

You wouldn’t have been able to see your own tongue of fire
•Because if you looked up to try to see it
•It would have stayed over your head

You would have to believe by faith that there was a tongue over your head
•The point is that I’m not the only one who can have this experience
•You have an individual tongue from God

God wants to work through each one!
•This wasn’t the 12 apostles only
•There were 120 there (Acts 1:15)

Acts 1:4-5

Acts 2:38-39

The promise is the baptism with the Holy Spirit
•This promise was not just to the believers who were there that day
•It was to their children also
•And to ALL who are far off, as many as the Lord calls!

That’s us! We were far off and God called us!
•You can experience being saved!
•You can experience water baptism
•Why can’t you experience spirit baptism?

There were 3 major feasts they came together for every year
•Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles
•Jesus died on Passover

Passover was when a spotless lamb was sacrificed for the sins of the people
•Jesus is the total fulfillment of Passover!
•Can you experience the fulfillment of Passover?

But you weren’t alive when Jesus died on the cross
•So can you still be saved today?

Yes! Even though you weren’t on the earth when Jesus fulfilled it
•You can experience personally the fulfillment of this feast!
•It included the Feast of unleavened bread and Firstfruits

Jesus is the Bread of Life that was hidden (Buried)
•Then brought forth on the Day after the Sabbath
•As the First of the Firstfruits harvest that was to come!

We’ll come back to the Feast of Pentecost in a moment
•Can you experience the fulfillment of the Feast of Tabernacles
•There is one feast yet to be fulfilled

It’s when the last harvest is gathered
•It includes Trumpets and Atonement (Second coming and judgment)
•And we are all gathered together to tabernacle with God for eternity

You will experience the fulfillment of this Feast also
•Even if you’re not living at the time of the Second Coming!
•So if you can experience the fulfillment of Passover
