I believe at a certain point takedowns become 50/50. 50% technique, 50% attitude.
I’ll illustrate it with 2 grapplers.
Grappler A has great technique but is nervous, unsure and second guesses himself. Grappler B on the other hand has O K technique but has the mindset that they’re a semi truck who’s gonna run someone over.
If you had to put money on which grappler would get the takedown, who would you choose? My money would be on Grappler B all day.
Now here’s a question you might be asking yourself. “How do you develop that aggressive mentality?”
Well I believe there’s a few ways. But #1 is to experience a little success. #2 is attempting something and not being completely destroyed afterwards. Both of these embolden people and encourage them to take more chances and risks.
This is why I teach my students simple takedowns that they can immediately use in training.
For instance, I taught the Knee Pick with the cross collar snap down this morning. It’s a basic takedown that can be used at every level from White to Black Belt. Several high level Black Belts use it with a lot of success. It’s also low risk because it doesn’t require you to drop a level and expose your head or neck. So if you fail it’s not a big deal.
This allows my new White Belts to go for takedowns with something simple that can actually work for them. But at the same time not get them killed if it fails.
Overtime they’ll develop the confidence they need to access that semi-truck mentality ready to run someone over.
And if you’d like to learn the simple and effective takedown I’m talking about it. Then shoot on over to the link below.

Oh and if you order today I’ll be throwing in my Get a Grips course as well as a Free bonus.
By the way, this 50/50 idea is true for a lot of places. Having all the technique without the mentality to win is having a pile of wood with no spark to light the flame. So when choosing techniques. Find the ones best suited for your level of skill.
Better to develop confidence with a basic technique than fail miserably with something more advanced.
Hope that idea makes sense. Talk to you soon.
