Join us as we go trackside to see the last operating search light signal in New Mexico mounted on a cantilever signal on the New Mexico Department of transportation Albuquerque subdivision of the New Mexico rail Runner express (NMRX) . These searchlight signals built by the Union Switch and Signal Company have protected the movement of famed Santa Fe Trains such as the El Captain, Super Chief, Grand Canyon, California Limited and The Fast Mail. And today they stood by and watched over Amtrak’s Southwest Limited and later Southwest Chief on their journey between Chicago and Los Angeles. Under these signals steam locomotives such as Santa Fe 2926 and 3751 have once rolled, but never more as CTC controlled signals will now take over.
These iconic signals and towers once dotted the AT&SF mainline from Chicago westward across the midwestern expanse to the southwest as the line roars across Arizona and New Mexico
