Movement begins in the brain — but the brain sends its messages to the center of the body first.
In this video, I explain why the multifidus muscle, a deep spinal stabilizer, plays such an important role in posture, balance, walking, and recovery after stroke. When the brain communicates through the spinal cord, movement is organized from the center outward. If that connection is disrupted — by stroke, injury, pain, or poor posture — balance and walking can become more difficult.
This lesson is especially important for:
Stroke recovery
Balance and fall prevention
Walking and gait retraining
Posture and spinal stability
Proprioception and body awareness
I break this down in a clear, easy-to-understand way so you can better understand how the brain, spine, and muscles work together to create safe, confident movement.
Whether you are a stroke survivor, caregiver, fitness professional, or someone working on balance and posture, this information can help you better understand where movement begins — and why the center of the body matters first.
Education is a powerful part of recovery.
