The theme of the 'Die Modenzeitung' programme is Schubert and his limited success in publishing his own songs.

The 15 'Modenzeitung' songs were individually published, over a ten year period, as supplements to a Viennese periodical magazine dealing with art, culture and fashion (hence 'Mode') and popularly known as 'Die Modenzeitung' (The Fashion Magazine).
Schubert chose each of the 15 songs, personally.

Dorothee Jansen, German soprano, began her opera career at the Cologne Opera and highlights of her career include appearances at the Bayreuther Festspiele (Bayreuth Festival), Teatro alla scala di Milano (La Scala Milan), Bayerische Staatsoper (Nationaltheater Munich), Teatro comunale di Bologna etc. Francis Grier, composer and pianist, former chorister at St George's Windsor and organ scholar at King's College Chapel Cambridge, former Tutor for Music at Christ Church, Oxford and organist of Christ Church Oxford Cathedral and master of the Christ Church Oxford Cathedral Choir, now lives in London, working as a psychoanalist.

As a duo, the Jansen Grier Duo, they have performed various Schubert programmes throughout Europe and beyond, including the Wigmore Hall London (4 recitals), the Maggio musicale fiorentino, Fesitval Radio France in Montpellier, Grand Theatre de Geneve, Markgraefliches Opernhaus Bayreuth, Bonn Beethovenhaus, at the Bahnhof Rolandseck near the Arp Museum, Festspiele Schloss Grafenegg Austria, St Leonard's Hythe festival, Canterbury Festival among others.

Dorothee Jansen lives part of the year in Christchurch, New Zealand, where she is well known for her many concerts, in Akaroa (The Gaiety); in Christchurch at The Vineyard at Rossendale, Christchurch Cathedral, The Great Hall, The Town Hall, The Court Theatre; in Queenstown (St Peter's Church), in Wanaka (St David's Church). Late 2012 will also include the new venue of St Michael and All Angels in Christchurch.
