The origin of faluda is Iran (Persia). The name faluda came from a popular dessert back then in Iran called 'faloodeh.' But it was only a little similar to today's form of faluda. At first, it entered Medieval India with Muslim merchants during the 16th to 18th centuries. The Mughal Empire first made today's style of faluda. You can find at least a little history behind every Indian dish. Isn't that interesting? Apart from its historical background, it also has quite an amazing taste. Even a milk hater can be dragged towards faluda, though milk is an important element of this dish. Let's make it together.
Ingredients:
• Milk (chilled) - 1 glass
• Boiled vermicelli (sevaiya) - ½ cup
• Basil seeds (sabja/ tukmaria) - 2 to 3 tbsp
• Rose syrup - 2 to 3 tbsp
• Mango syrup or Mango pulp - 2 to 3 tbsp
• Dry fruits (roughly chopped)
• Ice-cream- 1 to 2 scoop for each faluda
Method:
Mango faluda
• Take a beautiful glass where you want to present the faluda and add the ingredients one by one
• First, add 2 tbsp Mango pulp or Mango syrup
• Add 1 to ½ tbsp basil seeds [You must dip the basil seeds in water for at least 15minutes, after 15 minutes, you will see the basil seeds become double in size. That's what we want]
• Then make a layer of 2 to 3 tbsp boiled vermicelli
• Now pour ½ glass milk in the glass
• Mix all the ingredients very well
• Now put 1 to 2 scoop ice-creams on it. Here we used vanilla ice cream. But you can use any flavour of your choice
• Add 1 tbsp Mango pulp or Mango syrup and dry fruits on the top of the ice cream.
You can also add tutti-frutti, cherry, or Mango slices if you want. It will be very delicious as well as beautiful.
Rose faluda
• Pour 2 tbsp rose syrup in a glass
• The next steps are completely the same as the mango faluda. Just put 1 tbsp rose syrup on top of the ice-cream instead of mango pulp or syrup.
Don't forget to add the basil seeds in it. They are the main ingredients. Decorate the faluda with some rose petals and some essence into it and it can be the perfect dessert for your date! Sit on a couch and enjoy your faluda while watching the sunset on a summer afternoon.
Chilling milk and Basil seeds are refreshing in a faluda. You can add both mango custard and mango jelly in the mango faluda. Nothing can go wrong with such a beautiful dish. Faluda can be proved perfect for those who love to do experiments with ice cream. They can modify faluda with different flavours of ice-creams and can come up with new forms of faluda.
