Spanish and Portuguese have somewhat more 'conservative' vocabulary than French and Italian do, when we make all the relevant qualifications to that statement. Latinisation was always conditioned by circumstance: local conditions, the time period of Romanisation, the regions of Rome the conquerors, settlers, and merchants came from. This video covers how a combination of these factors led to the relative 'antiquity' of Iberian Romance.
