Trumped is a subadult male who ended up on the ground somehow, near a large park. I suspect he's been smacked around by a car (or had his flight destabilised by a car) and crash landed on the footpath.
A lovely MOP (thank you Maria) was walking her dog, who sniffed out the the bat in the long grasses on kerb. I love it when the MOPs give clear instructions as to where the batty is and I don't have to search far and wide with all the interpretations of the directions.
When I first saw him I thought he was a spinal injury because he was head up, but as he tried to climb the tree I could see the issue wasn't in his legs or spine. He was a total Cranky Franky with clear evidence of having a head smack; he was also in pain.
I didn't give him much of a survival chance, but hey, I can be wrong and he is defying the odds with a 3 day survival and no deterioration. Stay tuned for further episodes.
You can also see malnutrition rings around his eyes and muzzle; discoloured and brittle fur is a result of longterm malnutrition (which means for most of his life). Though he's quite a decent weight at the moment, he's done it tough for the last 12-ish months since his independence. There is mass flowering in SE Queensland at the moment, and in various places down the coast; I think he's bulked up in the last 3 months but hasn't reversed his body nutrient status yet.
How the batty ages are classified.
Baby 0-12 weeks
Juvenile 3-6 months
Subadult: 6 months until sexual maturity, 12-18 months, usually earlier with the males. The girls can have a baby at 18 months but they don't usually manage very well.
Adult, 18 months and thereafter.
At puberty the males get a thicker penis and their testes become enlarged.
Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult).

Mention Megabattie or Meg in the PayPal message box and the money will find its way to me.
If no message box appears, please email Jenny to tell her that the money is for me.
IMPORTANT: If you pay through the PayPal Giving Fund, can you please email Jenny with the AMOUNT DONATED and the name under which you have donated, OR just forward along the PP receipt.
The Giving Fund doesn’t charge any fees (so the bats get more money) but PP doesn’t itemise out the amount, they just send a total every month, and we don’t know if the money is for Tolga or for Megabattie.
Here’s Jenny’s email.
