What do we mean when we say couture from the inside out? One thing is that we teach from an insiders perspective, but the other is that Couture and Bespoke garments are finished not only on the outside and with the same attention to the inside.
Why does it matter? First it is one of the defining characteristics of Couture and Bespoke.
Then, how seams are treated and detailed not only speak to the aesthetic features but determine the stability and longevity of the garment through wearing and cleaning.
Also, linings, partial linings, facings and inter-facings are just important to the overall structure, function and appearance of the public-face side of the garment, the seams ability to hang straight or curved as is the case, the appearance of finished edges in Couture and Bespoke tailoring [and in pro Dressmaking].
Plus, finished smooth seams and linings add comfort to the garment as well.
These are just a few of the insights into professional couture tailoring and dressmaking that contribute to the allure of true haute couture.
