Match points (MP) or Meeting Marks (MM) are like sign posts to tell you where to meet up or assemble pattern pieces and points which are not completely obvious when reassembling.
They are similar to TT's because they are temporary marking stitches, transfer information to one or several layers of fabric, and are made like TT's but not identical in purpose or placement.
The difference is apparent by their relative placement or even thread colour coding. TT's are parallel to or right on seam lines, fold lines, or marking lines. whereas MP's or MM's are perpendicular to cut edges or seam lines.
