My entire intention for these videos is to act as a visual support towards experiencing and embracing the process of art. Trusting the process is one of the most valuable skills an artist can learn. Understanding that art takes time is another. That’s why the only editing that this project has gone through is to add music, insert the artist’s acknowledgements and notes along the way. I want those seeing this to know how much time this took without the timelapse.


Teaching Notes:

If you're wondering where the first part of this video is, it's simply not here. Really, the first step was to have students use their Chromebook, find a cartoon figure they liked, crop and resize the image in a Google Document and share it with me. Once I had it, I printed the image out and gave it back to them. Therefore, I have a note here explaining that.

In this video I give another option to tracing/ transferring an image onto the page.

In class we want to make this an option as many students are interested in many different characters for this assignment. While teaching them how to see the shapes in order to design the character would be a great lesson, we simply do not have time to cover all of the bases for this. (Maybe in future videos though).

Also, in class, we’re using a lightbox for transferring the printed image to the page.

Variations can be made based on material you’d like to use. This is for marker ink, but I could see it being a painting on cardboard to further study the artist.

Until I have a quiet space to record directions, I will be avoiding adding them.

Life happens at my house. It’s loud and alive, silly and spontaneous… During nearly all of my videos, ambient sounds are not the only ones recorded.
