Описание: This cake is very similar to my Pineapple Upside Down Cake (   • How to Make Pineapple Upside Down Cake!! S...  ) but it's made with apples, walnuts and cinnamon! It tastes like Fall! It's easy! I'll show you how to make it!

The ingredients are below, however, I've made the recipes available as a pdf in my Etsy shop in the link below for $1.50 as a digital download so you can print the entire recipe for your files. Make your guests feel extra special by serving this show-stopping Apple Upside Down Cake. Goes well with vanilla ice cream and coffee. Just add friends, a cozy place to sit, and great conversation.

Yield: 8 to 10 servings

INGREDIENTS:

5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
½ cup packed light brown sugar
1-2 apples, thinly sliced
1/2 cup of walnut pieces
sprinkle of cinnamon
sprinkle of cardamom
1-½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
pinch, or up to ¼ teaspoon of salt
1 large egg
¾ cup buttermilk
½ cup sour cream
4-½ tablespoons canola oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

INSTRUCTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

I mix the dry ingredients and wet ingredients together first, then do my apple design so that the apples don't sit and turn brown. You can coat the apple slices in lemon juice to prevent browning, but I just didn't have any.

For the Apple design:

Pour the melted butter into a 9-inch round nonstick cake pan. Swirl the butter around the side of the pan. This helps to prevent the cake from sticking. Sprinkle the brown sugar over the melted butter and even it out, if necessary, with a spoon.

Place thin apple slices around the pan (like flower petals), leaving a hole in the center of the pan. Add walnut pieces to the center of the apples. Sprinkle with cinnamon and a little cardamom.

For the Cake Batter:

In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients (flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt).

In a separate small bowl, whisk together the egg, buttermilk, sour cream, canola oil, and vanilla.

Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. The batter will be thick with some lumps. Don’t over mix.

Carefully pour batter into the pan over the top of the apples and walnuts. With a spatula or spoon, spread the batter evenly and carefully.

Place the pan on a baking sheet to catch any butter that can drip while baking. Bake for 40 minutes or until the center of the cake batter portion is done. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 30 minutes.

Once the cake has cooled, turn a plate or cake pedestal upside down, grab the edge of the cake pan with your thumbs, and the plate with your fingers and flip over swiftly. Gently pick up on the pan until the cake releases.
