In this video, I’m experimenting with making leather travel journals using scraps I rescued from my local recycle center. Every piece has its own history — natural creases, scars, variations in grain — and I’m learning how to honor that instead of fight it.
Inside, I kept things simple: blank mixed media paper thick enough for drawing, layering, watercolor washes, or quiet written thoughts. These aren’t lined planners. They’re open space.
Two of the journals I make in this video are miniature — truly pocket-sized, just a few inches tall. The kind of journal you could slip into a coat pocket, a market bag, or keep tucked in the console of your car for unexpected ideas.
This is my first attempt, so you’ll see the learning curve in real time — what works, what doesn’t, and how I adjust as I go.
