Indiana lawmakers are advancing legislation that could require kids to get written parental permission before accessing social media, as concerns grow about how online platforms affect young people’s mental health.
Two bills moved forward this week in the Indiana Senate Education Committee. If adopted, Senate Bill 159 would limit student device use during instructional time and give parents more control over school-issued technology at home. Senate Bill 199 would impose new age verification and parental consent requirements for minors using social media platforms.
