Echo Mountain Trail & Exploring the Resort Ruins San Gabriel Mountains Altadena, California

Описание: Join us as we go Wandering Out Yonder on the Echo Mountain Trail in the San Gabriel Mountains near Altadena CA.

In this video we hike up the very steep (1400ft elevation gain) mountain towards the Echo Mountain Resort that was a large tourist draw in the late 1800’s. The Thaddeus Lowe Resort was up at an elevation of 3200 ft overlooking the city of Pasadena.

On the climb up, the very steep and narrow trail offers views of Los Angeles in the distance. This warm November day provided us a fantastic view of LA below.

At the top you can see Rubio Canyon, and the remaining ruins of the resort that was wiped out during a fire in the early 1900’s. Also, the tramcar railway remnants and wheel are still present to explore. This destination was once one of the most popular stops in Southern California.

At the top, there is an “Echo Phone”. This could be used to shout messages across the mountain and the canyon, and a series of these metal megaphones were used to communicate back and forth to the resort.
