I use walking three times a day to regulate and reset my brain.
Not just to burn calories, though I want to lose weight.
Not to punish my body, because movement should never be a punishment.
I developed this habit to stabilize my anxious nervous system, process traumatic emotions, and to stay mentally steady through a highly committed, real life.
In this video, I share my three-walks-a-day routine:
• a morning meditative walk
• a midday reset walk
• an evening decompression walk
Each walk serves a different purpose, and together they’ve completely changed my mood, energy, focus, and relationship with movement.
This routine has been especially powerful for me as someone navigating depression recovery, nervous system dysregulation, ADHD-style attention struggles, and CPTSD freeze patterns.
Walking creates a rhythmic, bilateral movement that helps the brain and body communicate again. It’s soothing in the same way techniques like body tapping or somatic regulation work, but is far more accessible and sustainable.
What I cover in this video:
• Why I walk 3 times a day for 20 minutes each time
• How I use walking as a mental and emotional reset
• Morning walking paired with light therapy and meditation
• Midday walking to break up sitting, studying, and mental fatigue
• Evening walking as a transition out of the day and into rest
• How this routine supports depression recovery without overwhelm
• Why walking helps ADHD brains regulate attention and energy
• How movement helps process emotions stored in the body
• Why consistency matters more than intensity
This walking routine exists alongside my other movement:
• weight lifting three days a week
• dancing and singing as intuitive cardio
• stretching and flexibility work
But even on days where nothing else happens, the walking still does.
And that’s the point.
These walks have become the foundation that the rest of my life rest upon, and I’m committing to this practice every day for an entire year.
I’ll be documenting the journey as it unfolds alongside the rest of my growth journey: physically, mentally, emotionally.
If you’re trying to rebuild trust with your body, come back from burnout, or create a gentle structure that actually sticks, you’re in the right place.
If this resonates, consider subscribing to follow my year-long effort to become the person that I am meant to be- watch as I navigate returning to college as a 39 year old adult, complete body recomposition plan and laying my foundation as a creator.
And I’d love to hear from you: what movement or fitness steps are you taking this year to support your mental health?
