Dangote Warns: Sea Logistics May Push Petrol to ₦1,000 | Ask Nigeria Breaking News! View exclusively on social media, join us for accurate and up-to-date information on the current events shaping Nigeria.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has warned that Nigeria’s reliance on coastal (marine) logistics for fuel distribution could drive petrol pump prices as high as ₦1,000 per litre if the extra costs are transferred to consumers. In a statement issued on Thursday, the refinery explained that transporting petroleum products by sea, instead of pipelines or gantry-based truck loading, introduces heavy expenses that threaten the gains of local refining.
According to the company, coastal logistics can add about ₦75 per litre to petrol prices, with Nigeria’s daily consumption of around 50 million litres of PMS and 14 million litres of diesel translating to an estimated ₦1.752 trillion in additional annual costs. These costs stem from port charges, maritime levies, vessel expenses, and other fees that offer no direct benefit to consumers.
Dangote Refinery stressed that gantry truck loading remains the most cost-efficient evacuation method and warned that inefficient distribution choices could reverse recent fuel price reductions achieved through increased domestic refining. The company urged policymakers and marketers to prioritise pipelines and efficient logistics to protect consumers and sustain price stability. #shorts
