During her ongoing visit to Odisha, President Murmu performed the sacred pinda daan ritual — an ancestral offering for peace and liberation of departed forefathers — at Nabhi Gaya, a revered spot inside the Maa Biraja Temple complex in Jajpur district. Nabhi Gaya is one of the most spiritually significant pitru tirthas (ancestral pilgrimage sites) in eastern India and is considered comparable in importance to Gaya in Bihar.

After completing the ritual rites with the guidance of temple priests and brahmanas, President Murmu addressed the attending brahman community. She spoke about the deep spiritual significance of ancestral rites and the importance of preserving traditional practices that connect generations. Her message emphasised prayer for the well-being of all and invoking blessings for peace and harmony across the nation. The pinda daan ceremony at Navi Gaya is part of her programme in Odisha, which also includes darshan (worship) and other religious observances at Maa Biraja Temple
