WALKS IN SUSSEX & HAMPSHIRE at CHAPEL COMMON & THE FOLEY ESTATE (SOUTH DOWNS NATIONAL PARK)

Описание: In this episode of my series “ Walks in Sussex” (although the walk crosses into Hampshire!), I take a 5 mile circular walk starting & finishing at Chapel Common which is located 1 mile South West of Liphook & 5 miles North Eat of Petersfield. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.

I park my car in a road in Langley Wood (just off the B2070) and initially head South East across Chapel Common to join part of the Serpent trail. I then take a small detour South, crossing the B2070, to explore a couple of churches – Tuxlith Chapel (now a redundant church) & right next to it, St Lukes church (still very much in use today).

I re-cross the B2070 back on to chapel Common and head North East, past Liphook Golf Club and over the railway line to join the Shipwrights Way which takes me into the Foley Estate.

My route takes me through the Estate, passing the splendid statue of Lord Strathnairn and some pretty lakes, to follow the Sussex Border Path around to the Forest Mere Health Spa where there is the most delightful lake to see.

I then head South, back under the railway line and on to Chapel Common leg back to my car.

This walk is one the walks in the excellent book “The South Downs – A Dog Walker's Guide”by Tracey Gower, which I highly recommend.
