The Man Who Wrote for Others
by Mack Hollowpoint
He lived in the hush of the backroom light,
Where the fan clicked time and the words took flight.
A pen in hand, a borrowed tune,
He wrote for hearts that broke too soon.
They never knew the name he wore,
Just the lines he left by the old screen door.
He’d hum a line, then let it go,
Like a river song that no one knows.
He was a Cyrano with a Michigan drawl,
Writing love for the ones who couldn’t call.
He’d ghost the verses, let others sing,
Then fade like smoke from a porch light swing.
He knew the ache of a line too true,
The weight of a kiss that never flew.
He’d stitch their stories, soft and wide,
Then watch them walk with someone else’s pride.
A Cyrano with a Michigan drawl,
He carved his name in the margin scrawl.
He wrote for the ones who never knew,
That the song they loved was his heart, too.
So, raise a glass to the man unseen,
The poet behind the tambourine.
He never asked, he never stalled—
Just wrote it down when the silence called.
