A Basic Income is a feasible and affordable way to make our society better for all of us. Dr. Forget analyzed data related to a Basic Income experiment that took place in Dauphin, Manitoba in the 1970s. She was involved in the short-lived Ontario experiment, and participated as a consultant in several other ongoing experiments around the world.
Results are consistently positive: physical and mental health improves, the use of healthcare services declines among recipients, people invest in education and report improved financial well-being and quality of life.
Evelyn L Forget is Professor of Economics and Community Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba Canada. Her research investigates the social determinants of health, the health effects of social policy and, especially, Basic Income. She is often called upon by governments, First Nations and international organisations to advise on poverty, inequality, health and social outcomes.
