Rush - Alien Shore bass cover by Hemibass

Описание: My last video of 2023 and I thought I would cover a really good one to end the year - Alien Shore from Counterparts. This song has some of the best bass playing Geddy ever did in my opinion. Funky and melodic, grooving with the drums, but a real hard rock bassline at its core.

I saw Geddy at London for his book tour a couple of weeks ago, and he highlighted this one when asked about under-rated Rush songs and I was really pleased to hear the song get some love because it's been one of my favourites from Counterparts since I first listened to the album as a much younger bass player. The bassline in the verses is so cool and I love the progression as the song moves through the verses, getting slightly more busy each time. Along with Emotion Detector and Totem, this one surely has to be one of the ones that I would love to see a live performance of - even just to see how Geddy played the part!

This is also the first video I have uploaded with the new pickups in my Jazz bass. I swapped out the stock pickups for some Tom Brantley rewound jazz pickups (https://tombrantleyrewinds.com/geddy-...) because I was starting to want a little bit more oomph in the low end and I was finding the stock pickups slightly lacking in that department (particularly noticeable in the context of a live mix with my band). I was a bit worried about changing the pickups, because I loved the character of the sound I was getting already and I didn't want to change it too much, but I think these pickups allow me to keep the Jazz bass growl with just a bit more low end presence, so I'm very happy with them. I've even ordered another pair to go in another Jazz bass :)
