Wheatstraw, aka The Devil's Son-in-Law, aka The High Sheriff of Hell, was one of the most popular blues recording artists of the 30s. Despite this fact, he - like his many of his fellow St. Louis bluesmen - is considered relatively obscure. Sadly, few champion Wheatstraw's piano playing. Though it is surely a crude style, there is something haunting and ethereal in it.
