The San Diego Sheriff's Special Enforcement Detail (SED/SWAT), Poway Sheriff's Station in partnership with the Poway Unified School District and Poway Fire Department conducted an active shooter drill at Abraxas High School May 20th.
The goal is to expose school personnel to law enforcement response procedures so they know what to expect in the chaos of a real shooting scenario. Classroom presentations are designed to assist school personnel with ideas and options should they be confronted with an active shooter.
An active shooter by definition is someone who displays the ability and willingness to shoot people indiscriminately and without regard to his or her safety. It's a scenario that no one wants to think about, but deputies are ready to respond in the event a real emergency occurs.
If you have an emergency, call 911. Students with information about threats of violence at school can call the Crime Stoppers Students Speaking Anonymous Tip Line (888) 580-8477. You can remain anonymous and be eligible for up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
