I know most people don’t look in the description section, but first off, I did accidentally say John Couch was born in 1911 at the 5:20 mark of the video… when he was really born in 1811. It would be pretty crazy taking out a land claim more than 60 years before he was born.

Every so often I will look at something in relation to Portland and it's appearance, something I have seen hundreds of times, and something suddenly clicks with me. That's what happened here as, in this video, I will take a look at why the downtown part of Portland has a suddenly directional change in its streets once one crosses Burnside Street. It's not a particularly difficult question to answer, but it opened things up to discuss early Portland history, the history of a man named John H. Couch and the land that he owned, as well as diving in to some of the complications that exist in the city as a result to this "bend" in the city's streets. Really just a video for fun and to dive in to a mix of previously addressed history along with some new things.
