Mozart’s Sonata for Piano and Violin in D Major, K. 306, was composed in 1778 as part of the set of six sonatas (K. 301–306) written during his stay in Mannheim and Paris. This sonata, the last in the set, showcases a confident and extroverted character, reflecting the influence of Mannheim’s renowned orchestra and its dynamic style. K. 306 is notable for its expansive three-movement structure and virtuosic demands on both instruments, particularly the piano, which was gaining prominence in Mozart's chamber works. The work was published in Paris and dedicated to the Electress of the Palatinate, Maria Elisabeth (1721-1794), underlining Mozart's efforts to gain favor with aristocratic patrons during his travels.
