Microsoft Azure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to user sign-ins by requiring more than just a username and password. It helps protect Azure accounts from common threats such as password theft, phishing, and unauthorized access.
Azure MFA works by combining something you know (password) with something you have or are, such as a mobile app notification, one-time passcode (OTP), SMS, phone call, or biometric authentication. This significantly reduces the risk of account compromise.
MFA in Azure is managed through Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) and can be enforced using Conditional Access policies. This allows administrators to require MFA based on conditions like user role, device type, location, or sign-in risk.
