Another typical McCartney bassline! The bassline got lots of little enhancements. I really like small slides towards a note as in bar 12 or 16, but especially the slides downwards as in bar 17 and 18.

A special note for the 16th lick in this song. As one might think the bass starts with this lick in bar 4. But it doesn’t! It’s only the piano that plays this lick. Further on in bar 22 you might think that the 16th lick starts at the C-note. But it doesn’t! McCartney let the piano start with C and C# and then he starts the bass unisono with the piano, where the bass starts at the D-note. He repeats this in bar 40. And at the end of the song (bar 59) that’s where the bass starts together with the piano on the C-note. Really building a bassline!

Talking about melodic lines: there’s this beautiful lick in the Chorus (last two bars; for instance bars 17-18). The bass slides downwards from the D on the G-string. Plays an octave D (3 ½ and 4th count), and again a slide downwards from the D note in bar 18. I play the low D note in bar 17 on the A-string, but if it’s more comfortable for you, you can also play the D as on open string of course.

To name just one of my other favorite licks: bar 56-57. Paul plays a downwards slide on the A (4th count bar 56), directly followed by an upwards slide towards the G note in bar 57. Really subtle; really fantastic!
