Who's excited for the new Zelda game coming out this week? Given all the hype around Zelda, I figured it'd be the perfect time for a classic Zelda cover! This arrangement draws inspiration specifically from the Ocarina of Time and Nintendo Land versions of this theme. (Hearing the Nintendo Land version is actually what made me think about starting this arrangement!)

This fast-paced arrangement was a ton of fun to put together. Xylophone rolls and glissandos? Check. First song on YouTube featuring the new cajon? Check. Unnecessarily fast tambourine part that probably would've been easier with two hands (via putting the tambourine on my knee) but I played with one hand anyway? Oh yeah, we've got that here too.

But wait, V-Ron, didn't you already have a cajon? Okay yes I did, but this one is smaller. Most people would consider that a downgrade, but I consider it an upgrade for one very specific reason: my feet can touch the floor when I sit on it. No more five minutes playing/five minutes standing break for the sake of my back and legs. Now I can actually focus on having fun while I play it!

There are a few smaller details I want to briefly mention too. The third time through, there's a neat countermelody in one of the marimba parts that I really enjoyed transcribing and playing. I usually add more auxiliary percussion parts in the later loops of an arrangement, but I purposefully kept it to just tambourine and cajon this time. It stays true to the original versions of this theme, plus I think that would be more realistic for an ensemble to play this in a live setting. Of course I love adding in a bunch of extra layers in my home studio, but I think it's important to consider playability for various sizes of ensembles as well. (Just another detail I keep in mind when working on publishing sheet music!)
