In this episode of Get Better At Golf, Bill Hobson from Michigan Golf Live is joined by Kyle Martin, PGA Professional at The Fortress Golf Course in Frankenmuth, Michigan, to address one of the most common frustrations among amateur golfers: failing to consistently hit the green from scoring distance.

The first surprise? Even the best players in the world miss greens from 100 yards. That means firing at every flag isn’t smart golf — it’s risky golf.

Instead of attacking tucked pins, aim for the center of the green. That simple adjustment increases your margin for error and turns difficult up-and-downs into routine two-putts.

From there, setup becomes critical. Many golfers play wedge shots too far forward in their stance and attempt to “help” the ball into the air. Instead, move the ball slightly back — a couple balls inside your trail foot — and favor 60 percent of your weight on your lead side. This promotes clean, ball-first contact and better trajectory control.

You’ll also learn a simple towel drill that provides instant feedback. Place a towel just behind the ball. If you strike it, you’re hitting the ground first — costing yourself distance control and consistency.
