The 1500 meters, a metric equivalent of a mile run, have been contested in every Olympiad since the Games were revived in 1896. The competition format typically consists of three rounds: a qualifying round, a semifinal stage, and a final between twelve runners traveling three and three-quarter laps around the 400 m track to the finish line.
Directed and produced by the late Bud Greenspan in 1980, this documentary features the stories and triumphant moments of the 1500 m champions in a classic Olympic mile run, including Finland's Paavo Nurmi (1924), Australia's Herb Elliott (1960), New Zealand's Peter Snell (1964), Kenya's Kip Keino (1968), and Great Britain's Sebastian Coe, the first man to win gold medals in two successive Olympiads (1980 and 1984).
