Chorale for Solo Marimba by Joshua Nichols
From the composer: "Inspired by the resonance of pipe organs and well-tuned marimbas, this work explores dark colors and looks to resonant harmonies that only wood can produce. Creeping along, but not stagnate, is the melody and contrasting harmony; but occasionally, one will hear the same germane idea in other voices. There is natural rise and fall of harmony, dynamic, and melody. There are glimpses of traditional open-fifth harmonies, and even texture changes between rolled and non-rolled articulations. Overall, one should creep along in the solitude and curious mixtures of harmonies."
