Dr. Karim Hammad recently competed at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in St. George.
A busy doctor, he’s had to learn to balance his desire to train against the realities of his job: 12 hour on-call shifts, night shifts and the challenges of unpredictable work load and lack of routine. His story involves a lot of acceptance of needing to train around ‘the way things are’ rather than ‘the way we would ideally like things to be’, and his success qualifying for the World Championships underlines the importance for all of us of putting recovery, and health, first.
