I first visited Himachal Pradesh in 1991. I was fleeing the Delhi heat and headed for the Himalayas. Then, I visited Shimla, Manali and went trekking from the Rohtang Pass to the Baralacha Pass (where I experienced being over 5,000 metres above sea level the first time in my life on land). I loved the experience and vowed to return to experience this wonderful and unexpected Indian state.

This time, with my sisters, via Amritsar, we visited the western side of the state. In this deep diver Dharamshala travel vlog, I explore the spiritual and scenic heart of Tibetan culture in India — from the serene Dalai Lama Temple and Namgyal Monastery to the local Dal Lake and panoramic views of Naddi and McLeod Ganj. This video could have been done in 2 parts, but I kept them together as the Monastery adds so much more substance and understanding of the local Tibetan culture and history.

Walk with me through the streets of McLeod Ganj, interact with monks, and discover how Tibetan traditions thrive in this corner of Himachal Pradesh. For the #cricketfans, is also home to the highest international cricket venue in the world.
