In July 2020, it was announced that Canberra's rates of preterm birth had fallen by an incredible 10% after rolling out their version of The Whole Nine Months program.
ABC TV covered the breaking story, speaking with our ACT lead Assoc Prof Boon Lim and the true face of our work, proud mother Karli World and baby Quinn.
Using our knowledge, we had always hoped that the Australian Preterm Birth Prevention Alliance would provide the mechanisms for states and territories to adapt, modify and tailor the existing WA-specific Initiative for introduction and successful implementation in each region.
The results in Canberra are clear sign of how identifying, and appropriately resourcing, prevention strategies that are effective and feasible for a specific healthcare system, can result in a meaningful reduction in the rate of preterm birth. It is also clear that these results equate to significant savings for the health economy.
