The Alluring Glamour of Lake Como | Morning Trip to Tremezzo, Italy

Описание: Today we'll be going on a fall morning trip to Tremezzo, an incredibly enchanting town on Lake Como, in northern Italy!
It's located on the western shore of the lake, close to other beautiful and well known destinations such as Bellagio, Menaggio and Cadenabbia.
This town is one of the most stunning and glamorous of Lake Como as a whole! It's characterized by amazing views, majestic villas, an elegant lakeside park, several quaint hamlets and much more!
This makes Tremezzo a quintessential place to visit if you are ever around here, and a location that always comes to mind when thinking of this renowned lake.

The town can roughly be divided into two sections:
The one along the lakefront is where the town center is located and also by far the most visited by people.
The main tourist attractions of Tremezzo can all be found here, including Villa Carlotta, an 18th century villa turned into a museum and surrounded by a gorgeous botanical garden!
While walking along the lakeside you can admire an amazing scenery, one of the best that the lake has to offer! This includes a breathtaking view over Bellagio, where Lake Como splits into two branches, giving it its peculiar upside-down Y shape.
Of note are also the many villas that can be seen dotted here and there throughout the town, most of which are not far from the shore.
This is also one of the few places on the lake that have two ferry stops: one is called 'Tremezzo', which leads to the town center (more or less), while the other is called 'Villa Carlotta', which leads directly to the botanical garden!

On the lower slope of the mountain you'll instead find the residential area of Tremezzo, which is a lot more quiet and peaceful than the bustling lakeside.
It's still incredibly scenic, although in a different way: up here the landscape is filled with olive groves and cypress trees, which grow really well due to the temperate climate created by the lake.
The mountains also feel a lot closer than they were before, even though the peaks are still unbelievably far away!
It's like entering a different world, one of steep streets and never-ending staircases, where the lake seems just like a very distant backdrop.
A handful of old hamlets are scattered around this area, giving an idea of how much smaller and farther apart the houses used to be back in the day.

A very interesting hike that can be done around here is to follow the paths that from the top of the town lead all the way to the peak of Mt. Crocione, the mountain on the lower slope of which Tremezzo is built.
This is a very tough climb though, since it takes 4 hours to reach the summit and the trail can be really steep and rugged. It's probably better to leave this to people that already know how to deal with this kind of thing!
If instead you want something easier, I highly suggest the Lake Como Greenway, a 10 km (6.5 miles or so) itinerary through the beautiful towns and villages of the western shore of the lake.
The Greenway begins in Colonno and ends in Griante, while crossing through the entirety of Tremezzo, mostly following its lakefront (along the way it reaches four other locations as well).
This is an amazing walk that will show you the true beauty of the local landscape, even more so if done in late spring / early summer!
