Today I'm showing what I colloquially refer to as "sweaty options." This arrangement normally includes Atk+300, Power Up+3, Sync Countdown -2, Half Ally HP and Five Stats Up. The goal is lowering enemy bulk as much as humanly possible and win by first sync. At a glance it looks like I'm setting up the party to die on opening, but there are many ways to void incoming damage altogether.
[0:00] - Blocking
Blocking moves such as Wide Guard, Obstruct and Protect can be used to void one instance of damage. 2-turn moves such as Fly, Bounce and Phantom Force also fall under this category as the user avoids most instances of damage while "charging." Blocking moves tend to be handier however, since most Blocking kits proc useful side-effects on successful blocks. Of course, you have to account for the fact enemies may not bother attacking you and leave you hanging.
[1:26] - Endurance Spam
Sync Pairs like New Year's Sabrina and Holiday Jasmine have potent tanking Trainer Moves that grant Endurance. With a smart rotation you can ignore damage altogether since Endurance guarantees you'll survive no matter what. Endure tanking is also one of the few ways to realistically employ Power Reserves.
[3:04] - Lisia
Lisia gets too much flak. Lisia nets you a lot of free points should you exploit her kit to its fullest. 3/5 Lisia can grid Trainer Move Durable 9 for two on-demand Endurance procs. Lisia is quite tanky so she tolerates Half Ally HP just fine, but more importantly a low health Lisia can take advantage of HP Trade-Off to boost her DPS. Defog also happens to remove all opposing shields - including Critical Shield. Lisia's mere presence yields 450 points to drop enemy bulk.
[4:48] - Recoil Fainting
This game has a bizarre interaction involving recoil: should you faint from recoil damage - as the current target - all foes stop queuing attacks and wait for you to faint. OG Phoebe can pull this off with Double-Edge for example. There are other sneaky means of replicating this effect, such as fainting from weather recoil or status recoil. For example, you could tank with Endurance Shauntal and have her faint via self-Burn to stall the queue. SS Dawn is the best user of this strategy: with Half Ally HP she immediately activates a multitude of passives between Damage Guard Next, Free Move Next and Sync Countdown right before biting the bullet.
[6:10] - Sleep
Consistent staggering is fundamentally broken. I go out of my way to avoid Sleep because it cheeses most content. You can just toss Ramos into a team and he achieves results by clicking Sleep Powder to delay the enemy. With a good grasp of the turn order you can Sleep-lock enemies and avoid damage altogether.
