At the 2026 AFCA Convention, coaches learned about an opportunity to make a life-saving impact far beyond the football field.
In this session, coaches introduce the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) and the Andy Talley Bone Marrow Foundation’s “Get in the Game” initiative, a program that partners with college athletic programs to register bone marrow donors and raise awareness about life-saving transplants.
What started with just nine schools in 2008 has grown to more than 450 campuses across the country, empowering student-athletes to lead donor registration drives and potentially save lives.
Through the program, teams host campus donor drives, educate students about bone marrow donation, and help connect patients battling blood cancers and disorders with potential matches.
Coaches share how easy it is to implement the program on campus and how football programs can use the same teamwork and leadership they bring to the field to serve their communities.
