Tel Koi Jeere Morich Diye ll Climbing Perch Fish in a rich Cumin and Black Pepper based Gravy

Ingredients :
Koi (climbing perch) fish - medium sized 7-8
Turmeric powder
Salt
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon kashmiri chili powder
3 teaspoons whole cumin seeds
2 teaspoons black peppercorns
2 tablespoons mustard oil to fry the fish
1 tablespoon mustard oil for the gravy
Method :
Clean the fish and rub them with salt and turmeric powder. Coat them evenly. Heat 2 tablespoons mustard oil until it starts smoking and fry the fish. Keep the fried fish aside. If required add little more oil and heat it.
Temper with 1 teaspoon cumin powder.
Soak 1 teaspoon cumin seeds and 1 teaspoon black peppercorns and blend it into a smooth paste along with the green chilies.
Add this paste to the oil after the cumin crackles. Lower the heat and sauté until the oil separates.
Take the cumin powder and kashmiri chili powder in a bowl and add little water to make a smooth paste.
Add this spice paste after the oil starts leaving the sides. Sauté over low heat and wait for the oil to separate. Once done, add 250 ml water. Wait for 5 minutes and then add the fried fish gently.
Cover and cook for 8-10 minutes and you are done.
Serve with rice.
