Hi there, Jason here and welcome to another tutorial where we are diving into the world of environment art and asset optimization. In this session, we are exploring a powerful technique used in the games industry called Trim Sheets.
What’s in this Tutorial?
The Concept of Trim Sheets: I’ll explain how a single texture sheet can be used to add high-fidelity detail to multiple models, such as temple walls and ancient ruins.
Blender Modeling: We will model an Egyptian pillar from scratch, focusing on clean geometry ready for texturing.
UV Mapping & Trims: You’ll learn how to map your pillar’s faces to specific "trims" on the sheet to add intricate hieroglyphs and decorative borders.
Normal Maps for Depth: We'll use normal maps to create a realistic "bump" effect, making those sandstone carvings look physically etched into the surface.
Hybrid Workflow: Once our 3D base is rendered, we’ll take it into Photoshop to explore digital over-painting, adding weathering, grit, and even cinematic character elements like a classic movie mummy.
Why use Trim Sheets?
Trim sheets are a staple for environment artists because they allow you to build vast, detailed scenes while keeping your texture memory low. Whether you're building a simple prop or a massive tomb complex, mastering this workflow will significantly level up your 3D pipeline.
