Today I’m installing the new headlights on my Bachmann Spectrum GE 44 Tonner — and this setup looks way better than the original.
Instead of the stock light pipe, I designed a clear resin headlight insert that lets me attach a 603 warm white SMD LED right on the back. The tricky part is bonding the LED cleanly… so I’m using UV glue and a cheap little gooseneck UV light (foot switch included) to cure it fast without juggling tools.
What you’ll see in this video
The clear resin headlight insert design (made to fit a 603 LED)
A simple UV glue method that makes mounting repeatable
Press-fit installation (no glue needed to mount the insert)
Real-world brightness testing (2.5V vs 3.0V)
Why lowering current helps reduce light leaks and keeps it realistic
What’s next in the rebuild (dull coat + LED comparison video)
If you’ve fought dim headlights, light bleed, or fiddly installs… this one is for you.
