Two Bit Review Canso Plane Crash, Port Alberni, BC

Описание: This is a Two-Bit review of the Canso Plane Crash site in Tofino, BC.

The Good:
There is lots of parking at the bottom of Radar Hill now
The first ¼ of the trail is a smooth old road to a cement structure
The last ¼ of the trail is much better than it used to be with board walks over much of it
The plane is still the way it was 25 years ago when we first saw it, except for the graffiti all over it,
A really cool thing to check out and a great half day hike,



The Bad:
After the cement building the trail gets quite bad for the decent down the hill with about 30 minutes of muddy, root covered trails,
It is quite a climb up 50’ up a hill to get to the top of the plane
It is NOT a “Sanctioned” trail,
No formal washroom facilities, (with the exception of the trees off to the sides)

Conclusion:
It is worth the hike, permit about 4 hours so you can take your time, pack snacks and water,
As mentioned above we came 25 years ago when there was no trail, only a few ribbons to follow, no boards to walk on and many times a year people got lost searching for it and had to be rescued,
This is much better now, there is a well-defined trail that is difficult to miss, and even though it is not yet “sanctioned” they had descriptions of how to get there in many guides.
If they “sanctioned” it, they would have to fix up the trail and maintain it.
