Ibn al-Qayyem mentioned at the very beginning of his book al-Fawaed that there are 4 factors needed to benefit from Quran. We will present here these 4 factors noticing that the fundamental issue here is to believe in Quran first. Ibn al Qayyaem said:
""If you seek to benefit from the Qur’an, summon your heart during its recitation and listening; lend your ear and be present as one who is being addressed by Him who spoke it—Glorified is He—from Him to you. For it is His discourse to you through the tongue of His Messenger. The Almighty said: ﴿إن في ذلك لذكرى لمن كان له قلب أو ألقى السمع وهو شهيد (37)﴾ 'Indeed, in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or who gives ear while he is present [in mind].' [Qaf: 37]." (al-Fawed)
