We interrupt our regularly scheduled broadcast to bring you du du du nuh a bit of news
So Chris Avellone has been pretty upset with the creation of the Fallout TV show,and he just keeps getting worse with each passing episode. He never got over the fact that fallout 3 was boughtout from under him and Most recently, he posted this

Where he says “yeah I mean why bother with people who love the franchise” in response to someone who said “the fallout tv show appears to have attracted a lot of whiny fans” like he just couldn’t help himself. I don’t know if he just didn’t notice, but the article that this was posted on was published over a year and a half ago and it was about how the show runner for the tv show has decided that he’s going to write the show as best he can and not worry about pleasing every fallout fan at once.

But here’s the thing, the history of Chris being totally unbalanced about a franchise he hasn’t touched for 15 years started almost 5 years ago. And it was a little bt more forgivable to be hating on Fallout back then, after all, this is in response to the Fallout 76 situation, which if you guys remember, that game was a total disaster, and Avellone said this back in 2021:

Now, maybe we can forgive Chris for this, but this was like the first public thing he did in a very long time. For those of you not in the know, Chris was accused of some pretty serious crimes in 2020, but he was innocent and he got paid out at least a million dollars by the accuser because it totally ruined his career. Here’s the thing though, as soon as all the lawsuits are over, Chris re emerges just to ask Elon Musk to buy Fallout so he can work on it again. So no matter what you think about his work catalogue, this was a pretty wild decision, optics wise
But honestly, Avellone hasn’t been ok for a while. Let me just recap, I know a lot of you already know this so I’ll be quick. Chris was a designer on Fallout 2 back in 98, but apart from designing a few cities in the game, he really didn’t do too much. After that though, he basically wrote a ton on what was going to be fallout 3. Only, the studio shut down and all those notes get stored away in a kind of book called Van Bueren and forgotten.so a decade later, when Bethesda bought Fallout and made their own version of fallout 3, I’m guessiong Chris probably thought all hope was lost, but Bethesda actually did hire Chris back and the rest of obsidian to make new vegas, which included some of the stuff from Van Buren and was lead by Chris, so I guess he was happy for a while.
In fact, You would think this would be enough for Chris but no such luck since he made this his profile picture

I mean this guy definitely thinks he’s hot shit for his writing in new vegas, but he just can’t let it go. I mean this guy wrote most of Lonesome road, Old world blues and Dead money only to not get the point of what he was writing.

I mean he wrote enough about letting go to have his own book, and yet he just can’t even do it himself. Also, if you want to see what Avellone’s writing looks like when he has total creative control, go replay Lonesome road. Ulysses was supposed to be in the base game, but Chris wrote so much diologe for him they couldn’t physically fit all the words on teh disc for new vegas.

Anyway, so he never gets over the fact that fallout was taken from him, even though Bethesda gave him a chance to make a game and its pretty well beloved by fans, but that wasn;t enough for him. So he’s probably just been seething this whole time until the show comes out a couple years ago, and his reaction has been pretty bad. He posted this


In response to the chalkboard scene in season 1, which i get, but again, you’ve got other people who wrote fallout games who are just basically like “yeah its fine, the shows entertaining, and meanwhile Chris just can’t seem to help himself,
When the season 2 trailer with the deathclaw dropped he said

And yeah I bet Bethesda regrets ever having him write a game for them at this point. I mean it could not be more clear that he thinks that everyone is just bad at writing compared to him, and he is totally ok with ruining his own reputation along with anyone elses that he can possibly bring down with him as long as he can convince everyone else that he was the coolest guy to write on fallout.
