In May 2023, Heidenheim, a team who twenty years earlier were playing amateur football, secured promotion to the country’s top-flight, the Bundesliga.

Their head coach has been in charge since 2007, 25 staff members have been with them since they were amateur, and a last-minute-final-day goal secured promotion to the top flight.
